Don't Forget Your Own Sunscreen!

So we went to the beach yesterday. I put sunscreen on the kids and my body. I totally forgot to be sunscreen on my face. So not smart.

Happy Flowers

We celebrated our 10th anniversary last week. We said no gifts since we are going away later this summer without the kids. Woo hoo! Anyway Dave surprised me with beautiful roses...
...and sunflowers. He knows sunflowers make me happy and the bunnies have eaten all of the ones I planted.
Dave being so thoughtful makes me happy.

Go see Leigh vs. Laundry to see more photos that will make you happy. This is 18 out of 52 for me.

Litter Bug Stories

Do you ever throw trash out your car window onto other people's lawns? I don't either but unfortunately I live on a corner, where some people think this is acceptable behavior. It makes me have weird fantasies where I can arrest these creeps and then sentence them to picking up trash in giant litter bug costumes. I said it was weird.

Most of the time, the trash people leave are fast food drink cups. They don't want them littering their cars but my lawn seems perfectly acceptable.

We often find empty beer cans and nips of hard liquor. I figure if you are drinking in the car you are probably not making good decisions. Littering is just one of them. Once I found 8 unopened beer cans on my front lawn. What was the thinking there? I don't want my parents finding the beer. Let's store it on this nice lawn. We can get it later.
The weirdest thing I found on my lawn was a giant double sided dildo. I kid you not. I made Dave get out of bed, the morning I found that beauty on the lawn. I had to make sure I was not hallucinating and I made him dispose of it. He got a plastic bag and dish washing gloves. He threw everything away including the gloves. What kind of argument must have taken place to cause someone to throw that out of the window? I can't believe you called me fat/cheated on me/forgot to pick up the dry cleaning. You don't deserve to play with this "toy" anymore.

Do you ever find trash on your lawn? Can anyone beat me for weirdest find?

Like a Fish

The Paper Mama
I've been missing Stella, my Nikon D50. She is being repaired. I've been using Pipsqueak, a Fuji Fine Pix. I haven't been taking as many photos because the camera is slow and not as much fun. Then I remembered Pipsqueak is totally water proof. We had fun yesterday taking photos in the pool. I saw Paper Mama's photo challenge is summertime. i heart faces theme this week is water. So I'm entering it there too. This shot is perfect for both. This is the summer Caitlin learned to swim underwater.

Be sure to head to the paper mama and i heart faces for lots of great photos.

So Cute and So Little

Shell from Thing I Can't Say asked us to rock the babies by showing off photos of the kids when they were little. This post totally got me feeling nostalgic.
This is a favorite photo from when Caitlin was 1 1/2. So cute and so little. I miss those pigtails.

This photo is of Davey when he was just a couple weeks old. I love his expression. You can already see his mischievous side.

Visit Shell to see more posts rockin' the baby and to submit your own.

The Star Wars Party

I never posted about the kids' Star Wars party we had in May. Better late than never right?

Caitlin refused to wear a Star Wars tee shirt but she did want Princess Leia hair.I also had to have a Princess Leia 'do.
Davey with his lightsaber. We made lightsabers for everyone at the party. They are pool noodles cut in half and then decorated with black duct tape. They were a big hit. I planned some Jedi training with the sabers and balloons but it was too hard for the littler kids. They just had fun pretending.
The boys in their Star Wars tees.
We had a bounce house. We said the bounce house was a part of the Jedi Training.
All the kids posed with Darth Vader. I cropped this one so no else's kids are in it. I sent the one with everyone in it as the thank you card.
Chewbacca cupcakes. Directions are here.
I was only going to make the Chewbacca cupcakes but Caitlin insisted we have some Princess Leia cupcakes. I found the instructions here. They were a big hit. With a cupcake and 2 oreos, how could they not be a hit?
Birthday kids.
I love this pose.

Hope all their wishes come true.
The whole family in Star Wars gear.
We had Darth Vader party masks for all the kids. Everyone had fun being Darth.
Darth Grandpa and Darth K.
There were lots of lightsaber fights but since the sabers were made from pool noodles no harm was done.

Books that Inspire Me

101 things you gotta do before you're 12 by Joanne Sullivan is fill of all the essential activities one should try before turning 12 years old. Most are simple pleasures every child should experience like ride, hike, or walk a rail-trail. Some are a little more exotic like breathe underwater. There are lots of fun things to do with the kids in this book. The 10 Best of Everything-Families by Susan H. Magsamen has all sorts of lists. I love lists. It has lists for regions of the US. I'm going to start checking off the 10 Best East Coast Beaches. They are Old Orchard (ME), Coast Guard (MA), Ocean City (NJ), Cape May (NJ), Lewes, Rehoboth & Bethany (DE), Hilton Head (SC), Outer Banks (NC), Cumberland Island (GA), Assateague & Chincoteague Islands (MD), and Bathtub Reef (FL). I think I'm using this book to plan some future vacations. There are lots of best parks and ice cream spots too.
Fairy Houses by Tracy Kane has given me and Caitlin good ideas on making our own fairy house.

A Garden Post

This is my first garden post of the summer. Things are growing in the new garden location but not as well as I had hoped. We realized that there is a bit more shade in the garden than we thought. Nothing is really growing at the very bottom. We won't bother to plant that end next year unless we cut that darn tree down.Sugar Snap Peas are climbing the lines.
Yellow Squash and Zucchini plants
Tomatoes
Carrots and weeds.
The bunnies ate every single sunflower plant. Apparently I planted a very delicious garden.
I brought myself an all ready grown sunflower plant to make me smile. Now I need to figure out where to plant it, where the bunnies will not eat it. Maybe I'll just keep it on the porch in the pot.

If you want to see some amazing gardens, go to Feet Off the Table for Monday Garden Club.
