Easter Photo

My family on Easter. I edited the rest of them out of the photo. I didn't think it was fair to post their pic here since they don't know about this blog :) This is a secret blog after all.

He Won't Be Asked to Spokes Model

The Easter Bunny brought Davey colored bubbles in his basket. He did not realize quite how messy, they would be.
Needless to say, the company probably will not ask Davey to spokes model for them.

Lemon Happiness

Dave brought me a sample size of this lemon vanilla body wash for Christmas. I thought yuck when I saw it. I finally tried it and loved how it smelled. It reminds me of lemon poppy seed muffins. When we went to the outlets a couple weeks ago, Dave brought me 4 big bottles of it. Showering with lemon vanilla body wash makes me happy.

Spring Break Photos

Spring break photos look a lot different now than back in the day. This week I tried to keep the kids busy and keep me sane. Caitlin climbed the cargo net. We rode bikes. Davey had the Star Wars DVD cases battle each other. I think it is time to buy that boy some Star Wars toys. We went bowling. I love that they lay on their bellies to watch the ball hit the pins. We made Rice Krispie treats bird nests. The kids made funny faces. Caitlin made bunny chains.
Hope you had a good week too.

Blooms Finally!

Don't forget to stop by and enter my Calypso bracelet giveaway.

After I long and snow filled winter, I am happy to see the small flowers/weeds bloom in the yard. I think spring is really here this time. I'm almost afraid to say anything for fear the snow will return. For now, I'm enjoying the blooms.

First Review and Giveaway!

There is still time to enter! I'm extending the contest till 21st due to blog issues last week.

I am so excited to have my first review and giveaway. When Calypso Studios asked me to review their It's a Wrap Bracelet, I couldn't have been happier. The bracelet is made with waxed linen cord and glass beads. The quality is great. The orange beads were vibrant and fun. The hammered metal clasp made it easy to latch the bracelet by yourself. It is really pretty and totally something I'm happy to wear.

I have found that since I became a mom, I don't always take the time to do my hair, wear jewelry, or heck... even shower some days. I am vowing to try to do all these things more often. I stopped wearing jewelery when the kids were in that fun pull everything stage. Now that stage is over but I think these bracelets are actually sturdy enough to survive my kids' antics. The bracelet made me feel a little more put together and maybe even a little hip.
The bracelet also got Caitlin's approval as you can see.

Be sure to visit Calypso Studios to see all their great jewelery. Also check out Calypso Studio's facebook page. Calypso Studios is giving away another It's A Wrap Bracelet to a lucky reader. You get to pick the color if you win.

To enter simply tell me what color bracelet you would pick.
*For an additional entry follow me on Google Friend Connect (GFC) or tell me you already follow.

You have till April 21st to enter. Winner will be randomly picked. Contest is open to US and Canadian residents.

Easter Week in School

Don't forget to stop by and enter my Calypso bracelet giveaway.
********************************************************************************

Even though Easter is not here for another week, the kids had lots of activities to celebrate it already. Caitlin lead the Easter bonnet parade at school, Davey did his best bunny nose wiggle, and we made Easter hats. Dave and the kids had a pig pile on the couch. Caitlin danced to Salt n Pepa on Oprah. Davey hung out and splashed in the rain. Hope you had a good week!

Easter Card Entry

********************************************************************************
I'm entering this card in the mommyhood memos Easter card contest. I figure since Walmart won't let me pick them up since I don't have a release for my own photos that they must be ok looking. The absurdness that is Walmart is another story.

Inside:
Have a Happy Easter!
Hope your Easter is full of kisses and chocolate bunnies.

Craptastic Day!

Don't forget to stop by and enter my Calypso bracelet giveaway.
********************************************************************************

So I woke up this morning looking like my eyes were "two piss holes in the snow." Anyone get the reference? Angels Ashes, great book.

I call my regular eye doctor. I tell them I have new insurance. They take the Id number and tell me to come right in. I drive 20 minutes to the office. The receptionist looks at my card and says, "We don't take this insurance." Really? Why couldn't the receptionist I talked to before I drove here tell me that? I go to the car to cry. Why I'm not totally sure. Yes it is frustrating but clearly not worth crying over.

I call Dave to tell him about the eye doctor not being apart of our insurance anymore. He calls me back with the number of another practice that takes our insurance even though he was running out of the door. He is really sweet and probably could tell I was crying.

I go to get my blood drawn to check my TSH hormone levels. The endocrinologist's office claims they sent over the paperwork yesterday. Of course, the blood draw office doesn't have it. I go to my car to cry again. What is wrong with me? Then I pull myself together and have the doctor resend the info.

I go to the new eye doctor's office with no problems. He comments that I have "quite the raging case of pink eye." Indeed. He gives me a free sample and a prescription. I try to get the prescription filled before I have to pick Davey up. I have 20 minutes but you know where this story is going. The pharmacy is busy so I pick Davey up and then return to the pharmacy to pick up the prescription. I manage not to cry.

When I get home, Dave tells me the mortgage has gone up $261 a month since our refinance. WTF. I tell him to call to figure out what the deal is. We got reassessed so I figured the value of the house went up a lot since we have made improvements and the market price has increased tons, etc. Nope that was not it. The assessed value was actually lower. Not sure how, but also not complaining. The mortgage company was not taking enough money to cover the taxes before we refinanced so they "fixed" it. That refinance that "saved" us money doesn't seem to be totally working out that way.

Our house insurance also went up $280 a year. So not cool.

Also the wire in my bra snapped too.

I should have stayed in bed today.

Keep Away

Guest Post on Minimalist Kitchens

Minimalist kitchen/community gardening

If there’s one thing we can all agree upon, it’s that people love to eat. That being said, many of us really like to cook. With the explosion of the “foodie” movement, it seems that what we eat and how we prepare it is always a hot topic of conversation. And just with anything that becomes “hot”, it becomes consumerized. I fall victim to it all of the time . . . passing by Williams & Sonoma, eyeing those shiny appliances and impressive looking gadgets . . . when in reality I’m not really quite sure what they’re for or how to use them. We’re constantly being fed this idea that to make good or “high-end” food, we need a plethora of tools. Simply not true. There is no reason to a) clutter up your small kitchen or b) spend needless money. Instead of spending time browsing through that kitchen catalog, do some research on the internet, or better yet, exercise that brain and see if you can’t come up with creative ways to solve your culinary problems with the basic, essential tools you already have. Here are a few simple tips:

- Don’t throw that wine bottle away! They actually make great rolling pins (and are even better than the real thing when filled with ice water and used to make perfectly flaky pie crust).

- Don’t waste time buying cookie cutters and other gadgets of the like. Use the bottom of a glass, or create your own stencil and cut out the shapes yourself!

- Keep your paper bags; many produce items like mushrooms and sprouts actually last longer in paper bags as opposed to plastic Ziplocs.

- Don’t waste money on a fancy Panini press. All you need to create the perfect hot sandwich is a good hot (cast iron if you have it) pan, and a smaller pan to place on top of the sandwich, weighted by something (an old brick, or the rocks your son brings home from school).

- Invest in a dutch oven; it’s great to roast in, make stews and soups, and can be used outside on a grill or on a stovetop.

- Avoid the all-inclusive knife set. First off, they’re not actually that economical, and secondly, the only essential knife you need is a good chef’s knife. A serrated knife and a smaller paring knife are also a nice addition.

- A pastry blender is not necessary. While it is nice, a fork or knife and some elbow grease will work just as well, if not better.

- Buy your dry spices and herbs whole – you can grind them yourself in your coffee grinder or, preferably, with a mortar and pestle (which you can find in thrift stores or discounts stores). And if you have space, start and herb garden and grow your own!

Another Good Week

So this week, we saw some blue skies, swung high, wore bunny ears, fell asleep in the car, danced with a singing toothbrush, guarded the house, and celebrated another birthday. We had another good week.

Depressing Fitness Friday

I haven't written a Fitness Friday in a while. I feel like they are just depressing posts. At least to me.

I got diagnosed with Hypothyroidism last summer. The Endocrinologist has tweaked my meds and considers my hormone levels good. I have been trying really hard to lose weight since I was diagnosed. Nothing is working. It is not lack of will power. My body is just not working right. I am sick of being fat. I have tried Weight Watchers, counting calories, gluten free, and the South Beach Diet. I don't cheat but I also don't lose. If I lose 3 lbs one week, I gain it the next week despite not changing anything. I work out 4-6 times a week. I do cardio (elliptical, jogging, and aerobics) and interval weight training. Nothing is working.

I asked my Endocrinologist about lack of weight loss at my last appointment a couple months ago. He kinda blew me off. I don't think he totally understood what I was saying. I think he thought I just can't stick to a healthy eating plan.

I am beyond frustrated. I was a Health and Physical Education teacher before I stayed home with the kids. I know the science behind weight loss. I know how to train. Eventually I want to go back to teaching but I know no one is hiring a heavy Health/PE teacher. That just adds to the pain.

I know that some of my readers have Hypothyroidism too. Did you find anything that worked for you? I'm willing to try. I'm not giving up yet but I'm getting close.

Easter Photo Session Outtakes

Time for project 365 again. If you are looking for my Ultimate Blog Party post, scroll down or click here.
***********************************************************************************
I usually take photos of the kids in their natural setting but sometimes I get the urge to try a regular photo session with the backdrop.
"Ma, there is a big spider on my face!"
"Check out my abs."
"Why is he hugging me?"
"Now he is kissing me!"
This is a totally natural pose.
"Whatcha looking at?"
Runaway bunny.
And my personal favorite.

Tuckered Out

My in-laws took the kids for a sleep over on Saturday. It makes me happy that their grandparents are close to them and love spending time with them. They tired them out good. They both fell asleep on the ride home. I'm guessing they were not the only ones who took naps that day.
