Spooktacular Saturday 6

1.) Are you going to be dressing up this year? If so tell us what your costume plans are!
I'm not wearing a costume but I am wearing a orange Halloween T-shirt, black skirt, and black and white tights.
The tights

2.) What's your favorite costume that you've ever wore for Halloween?
It has to be the hooker outfit in college. Don't judge me, it was fun.
Me in all my hooker glory and A., my co-hooker, who I am editing to protect her not-so-innocence.

3.) Trick or Treat! Are you into scaring people and kids on or around Halloween with tricks, ghost stories etc?
I love ghost stories but I'm not telling any to my kids. I like sleeping through the night too much.

4.) What is your dream costume idea? Money is no object, you can spend thousands of dollars on this costume if you want to. Feel free to show us pics, we're voyeuristic like that.
I love dressing up. I think I like an authentic Queen of Hearts costume.

5.) Is Halloween really as much fun as an adult as it was for you as a child? Has it lost any of it's mystique or whimsy to you over the years?
I loved Halloween in college. We always had the best parties to go to. Now I love seeing the joy in the kids.

6.) Halloween traditions -- tell us all about yours, what are your favorites?
We always watch "Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!" We also go trick or treating with the same friends in their neighborhood.

7.) What movies did you watch when you were younger around Halloween time that you still love to watch around Halloween time today?
See the above answer.

8.) When carving pumpkins do you use the stencils in the carving kits, or do you go all out with original designs etc?
Usually we go free hand but we have tried the stencils. I think I prefer an old school pumpkin.

9.) What's your favorite Halloween Candy? Has it changed since you were little?
Candy Corn! I have a serious addiction. My waist line is going to be glad to see it disappear soon. I loved it as a kid too.

10.) What's the scariest movie ever made, in your opinion?
I don't watch a lot of scary movies. I'm a bit of a wimp. I loved the Blair Witch Project. The paranormal movies scare the bejesus out of me too.

11.) As far as Halloween Costumes go do you buy store bought costumes, or do you prefer to make your own? What is your Halloween Costume style -- are you a sexy costume kinda girl or do you like the classic scary/gory/traditional costumes better?
I wore the sexy costumes before I had the kids. Now I tend to wear cute and non-scary costumes.

12.) Finish this sentence: Halloween wouldn't be the same to me without ________________________!
Candy Corn!

13.) What movies are on your Top Five Classic Halloween/Horror Films Of All Times list?
The Exorcist, Poltergeist, The Sixth Sense, The Shining, and The Blair Witch Project.

Bonus Question:

What is your Zombie Apocalypse Contingency Plan? Do you know how you would try to survive the Zombie Apocalypse? (answering the bonus question will get you an extra entry into any of my Halloween Themed Giveaways for my Mommys)

Well everyone know you must cut the zombies' heads off. I will get my chain saw, machete, and shotgun loaded and head to my truck. While the weapons are good for decapitating, running them over with a truck is also very effective. After clearing the road of zombies, I will head north to our friends ski/hunting cabin. The house is stocked with hunting guns and liquor. So if the zombies can't be defeated, at least I can have a couple drinks before I go.

Our date last week was Christmas shopping. Yup you read that right. My husband likes to get shopping for the kids done early. I thought we would just scout out Toy R Us to figure out the kids' main gifts but we ended up buying a couple of things that were on sale. It was nice to be able to go out to a toy store to look around without having to tell the kids a gallazion times, "We are not buying anything today!" Dave and I got to play with light sabers and dress up in feathered boas. It was fun acting like a kid.

This is date 31 out of 52 for us. Go to Simply Modern Mom to join in on the fun.

6 Sleeping Questions

BWS tips button

How many hours per night/day do you sleep? I usually get 8 but I need 9.5. It is probably due to the thyroid.

Night owl or morning person? I'm more of an afternoon person. But if I had to choose, I'd choose morning.

What do you wear to bed? Usually sweats and sometimes cute pjs.

Sleep crutches? A hug a body pillow and use breathe right strips.

Do you remember your dreams when you wake up? If they are good.

Any strange stories about sleepwalking/talking or anything of that nature? I use to have a sleep disorder. I would wake up but not really and hallucinate things. They were usually terrifying things like giant mechanical spiders coming towards me. I woke up my whole apartment in college the first night we were there by screaming in my sleep. I started to realize that the things I saw were not real, and found that giant bowl of dancing spaghetti funny.

8 Questions

Nicole from My Mad World tagged me for these 8 questions. I'm sure she thought I'd forgotten. I didn't forget. So here are my answers.

1. What's your favorite book?
Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

2. How do you get over writer's block!?!
I don't write. I'll take a couple days off. Or post some photos. Then I usually have something to write.

3. What's your favorite Holiday? why? I love Christmas. It seems magical. Most people are happy. I love watching the kids at Christmas.

4. What's one place you would love to visit? England to visit my Nana. I've been but I want to go again.

5. Do you have any pets? Maximus is the yellow wonder dog.

6. What's your favorite thing to bake? I love eating brownies but I always seem to undercook or overcook them. I like baking cookies.

7. Do you like sunsets or sunrises? Sunsets. I'm too lazy to get up to see sunrises.

8. What's your favorite movie? Dead Poets Society. Or Good Will Hunting. I guess you can say I like a good inspirational teacher story.

I'm suppose to tag 8 people but I'm not going to tag 8. I'm tagging anyone who wants to play. If you play, let me know and I'll come and visit.

Caitlin insisted on the sunglasses because she didn't want kids to see her "pink eyes." There were no longer pink. Caitlin did feel better with all the rainbows though.

Dare Devils and a Bookstore Date

Project 52: Date Nights logo
We had several dates last week. We tried The Dating Divas's Bookstore Date but we did ours in the library. If you haven't checked out The Dating Divas, you totally should. They have tons of great date ideas. The jest of the date is to find several types of books and share your results with each other. We got all the books in the morning and discussed them that night. We had to get a book about somewhere we want to visit, another with jokes to share, one with recipes to share, poetry to read to each other, and quizzes. We both got books on Disney. We are just a tad excited about our vacation. I got a book of jokes that were so bad that they were funny. Dave got a Bill Cosby book about kids saying the funniest things. Totally reminded us about things our kids have said. Dave got a book on cooking with mushrooms, since he knows how much I love them. He made me Mushroom Gumbo for dinner the next night. Not having to cook was an extra treat and the gumbo was terrific. I found a butternut squash recipe, that I'm going to make the next time I go grocery shopping. The poetry search didn't go well. We were suppose to find a poems that described our feelings for each other. We found some good ones but not that described our feelings. We didn't find any quizzes either. But our date provided plenty of conversation and fun. This date was so much fun that we may do it again and make up our own book search.
This is date 30 out of 52 for us. Go to Simply Modern Mom to join in on the fun.

In the Orchard

This week's theme at i heart faces is In the Orchard. I love visiting the orchard. Here is my favorite shot of Davey there this year.
Be sure to go to i heart faces to check out all the other beautiful faces.

I Miss Sick Days!

I miss sick days. I don't miss being sick. I feel lucky that I am healthy but I miss being able to take a day off when I had a cold to just relax and watch bad television. Since having kids, sick days don't exist. If I'm sick, I still have to tend to their seemingly endless needs. Seriously, how needy can two kids be?

Since I have had the kids, I think I have been too sick to take care of them twice. (Ok, three times if you count Davey's cesarean birth.) Those two times also took place on a weekend so Dave was home to take care of the kids. My body seems to know not to break down until a weekend. As a kid, I often had perfect attendance and got really sick during vacations. I got chicken pox over the summer vacation and the flu over Christmas break.

I miss watching Maury Povich to see who is not the father. I miss cuddling under the down cover. I miss doing nothing.

I Love This Dog Despite...

I love this dog despite...
  • The fact he stole and ate 18 granola bars out of the pantry.
  • The fact he puked up a bunch of granola bars and wrappers 2 days after this event.
  • Him jumping up on our bed in the middle in the night and stealing my foot space.
  • That he acts like a giant paper weight and makes it impossible to pull up the covers.
  • He needs bologna every night before bedtime despite no longer needing his medication.
  • He sheds enough fur each week to make a new dog.
  • The fact he steals frying pans off the stove to eat the contents.
  • The fact he barks at me when I have to leave the house.
Despite his annoying and infuriating behavior, I love this dog so much.

Family Fall Photo

One of my favorite things to do in the Fall is go to the orchard to pick pumpkins and apples. I brought my tripod so we could get a shot of the whole family.

Happiness and the Disney Planning Date

Simple joys of being a kid make me happy.

Project 52: Date Nights logo
So this week's date was planning for our Disney vacation. We are going in 7+ months. But we need to book at the 180 day mark so we can book characters dinners and other meals. I've heard even the regular dining reservations can fill up. Although the vacation is still a while a way, I was starting to get stressed. So Dave and I got some books out of the library. We also fired up the desktop computer and the laptop at the same time to compare hotels. We figured out where we want to stay and when we want to go. We also figured out the character meals we want to attend. We haven't booked yet. We are still searching for the best deals but I feel like we have a plan. We looked at the books together and both proclaimed that we can't wait to go.
We can't wait to see everyone!

This is date 29 out of 52 for us. Go to Simply Modern Mom to join in on the fun.

Panda Art and A Football Date

We had another repeat date. Yup. Breakfast on a preschool morning. We really could do a review of all the breakfast dinners in town. But I keep our location rather vague. I was sick on our date day. I wasn't up for anything more than breakfast. But I'm enjoying our breakfast mornings. We get to talk, reconnect, and enjoy a meal without tending to our kids' seemingly endless needs. But that date doesn't really count since it was another repeat.

We had an almost dinner date but we had the kids with us so it didn't count. Although the kids are getting better at behaving at restaurants. If they stayed under the table throughout the meal, would that count?

So we had a football date on Monday. We watched the Patriots vs. the Dolphins. My husband loves the Pats and the rest of us kinda have to. Usually I'm either working or busy with the kids but it was nice to watch a game with Dave without all the distractions. He loves it so much. He doesn't mind explaining plays and strategy which make watching the game more fun. We cheered for the Pats and made fun of the Dolphins. I discovered a new player to cheer for, Danny Woodhead. He is only 5' 9". He looks tiny next to the other players but he made several key plays. We ate nachos and drank (root) beer . I need to watch some games are become a football widow. I actually enjoyed watching and promised we will have more football dates soon.
This is date 29 out of 52 for us. Go to Simply Modern Mom to join in on the fun.

Simply Fabulous?

I had my annual gynecologist check up last week. I saw a male doctor in the practice. He is not the doctor I usually see but I was overdue and took the first appointment I could. This doc's bedside manner was a little weird or maybe I'm oversensitive.

He asked the general questions about my health. Then he started to do the breast exam. As he examined my breasts he kept saying, "Simply fabulous!" I know he was just talking about the lack of lumps in my breasts but I wanted to giggle like a 14 year boy. So who is the weirdo, me or the doctor?
