Dressing Up at the Museum

We love visiting the kids museums in our state. We visited another one last week and had a blast playing and dressing up.

Would You Rather?

Project 52: Date Nights logo

Dave planned our date this week. He browsed Simply Modern Mom for ideas. He decided we would play Would You Rather. Basically you get two scenarios and you must decide which one you would rather do. It made for some interesting conversation. We often agreed on what we would rather do even if it was for different reasons. I joked that Dave always picked the option that let him be more slug like. The poor guy has been so busy with work and finishing up work around the house, I can't blame him for waiting to rest.
Some decisions were easier to make than others. Here were some easy decisions for me:

Would you rather live without internet or eat a pound of Hershey's chocolate bar? Can you guess what I picked?

Would you rather live on a deserted island or change 10 poopy diapers in a row? Um, I've done the poopy diaper things way more often than I like but I'd take that over the deserted island any day.

This is date 8 out of 52 for us. Go to Simply Modern Mom to join in on the fun.

Almost back on track

I'm finally back on track with my work outs. The last two weeks I've done 2 of Jillian Micheal's Making the Cut workouts and have jogged/walked twice. I'm feeling good. Hopefully I can get in a 5th day next week. Although I still have to walk a bit, I feel great when I finish a run. I hope I can improve my speed and endurance. I wonder if I can do this only jogging 2-3 times a week. I'm going to try to take the kids in the jog stroller once a week. Pushing all that extra weight has to be beneficial. I'll have to weigh the kids to see how much extra weight I'm pushing. They are definitely over 75lbs. together. I think I'll be jogging on mostly flat ground with them in tow.

My weight is about the same. I've binged too much this week. I just can't seem to get things under control in this area. I need to figure out why. I feel like I get discouraged about not losing when I try so I just give up. I don't want to track my food/calories. I hate doing it. I want to be able to control what I eat like a normal person but that is simply not working. I think it is time to start caring, trying, and counting again. Wish me luck. There is still time to lose weight before swimsuit season is in full swing here. Thank goodness.

Come Back Spring!

This is a shot of me and the kids taking a break on our hike last week. The weather was gorgeous last week. It got into the 70s. Such a tease. Spring come back.

Movie Night

Project 52: Date Nights logo

We watched Inglourious Basterds for date night this week. We subscribe to Netflicks. We have had this movie for over a week now. It is a longer movie, 2 hours and 33 minutes. We never seem to have the time or energy to watch such a long film. But this movie was very action packed and I didn't have to worry about falling asleep during it. We enjoyed the movie. Parts of the movie were funny and many were violent. It was a very typical movie for Quentin Tarantino. The plot was interesting. Nice to see Quentin rewrite WW II. Tarantino has quite the imagination. And let's face it Brad Pitt is not bad to look at either.
Dave thought this date was a little uneventful so we had a bonus date night the next night. We had another spa date. This project has been great. We are finding ways of reconnecting. We are doing more things together. There are less nights when one or both of us are online and not really talking. The internet is great way of connecting with others when we are alone but we remember it is important to connect more to the ones right there.

This is date 7 out of 52 for us. Go to Simply Modern Mom to join in on the fun.

More Drawings by Caitlin

After doing this, Dave send Caitlin to her room.
When she was finished with timeout, she drew this picture of Dave. I love Dave's angry eyes and crazy grin. She said "If it is wet, it is from my tears."

We are so in trouble with this little girl.

Hunting for Dinosaur Trails and Leprechauns

We went hunting for dinosaur trails and leprechauns at park this week.
There was lots of running in the fresh air.
Caitlin looked for clues and fossils.
Davey did his best dinosaur impression.
Davey looking for clues too.
We thought this tree would be a good spot for a leprechaun to hide. We didn't see any at the park but when we got home there he was. The kids thought this was great.

See Me at the Museum

Forever In Blue Jeans
We visited our local kids science museum last week. It is always so much fun to play there. I love seeing how the kids get more out of the museum as they get older.

Spa Date 2

Project 52: Date Nights logo
Dave planned this date. He decided to do another spa date. We just finished our bathroom renovation so he wanted to utilize the new bathroom. He totally focused on me. He filled the bath with bath salts, applied a mud bath to my face, massaged my feet, and let me enjoy my soak. I felt a little guilty that the date was totally focused on me but Dave said that was the idea. Sometimes it is nice to be spoiled.
This is date 6 out of 52 for us. Go to Simply Modern Mom to join in on the fun.

Not Me Monday

It has been a while since I've written a post for Not Me Monday. It is a time to admit to somethings you might want to forget. MckMama is our host at My Charming Kids . Go over there to see what other people are not doing this week too.

My bra strap did not break during the middle of teaching a gymnastics class. I did not have to continue teaching while trying to fix it. From now on, the girls will not be contained in a sports bra.

We did not go to an ice cream social on Saturday. Davey did not eat his weight in dessert. (Note to self: Sit farther away from dessert table.) Davey did not pay for all the dessert consumption and wake up covered in puke Saturday night. I did not feel like a bad mom for letting him eat so much. A lesson was not learned.

Working Out is My Sanity Saver.

I felt irritable, lethargic, disconnected, and sad. This is what happens when I don't get to workout for consistently for almost 3 weeks. The bathroom renovation, my cold, lack of showers, cleaning, and surprise visitors are among the reasons I haven't been able to workout. This is the longest I have gone without working out since I started working out. I love working out. I feel off when I can't work out. Any little slight is magnified for me. I felt like crying for most of the day yesterday after my workout plans were squashed. Over reaction? Yes but that is how I felt.

I was able to workout today. I'm ignoring the cleaning I need to do to get the house back to normal. I need an hour a day for me. I don't think an hour a day to myself is asking too much. What I do for a workout may change but one thing stays the same, working out is good for my sanity.

This coming week, I'm looking forward to getting the house back to normal, working out regularly, and getting the diet back under control.

Wii!

Project 52: Date Nights logo
Dave is planning our dates this month. I'm excited that I don't have to plan them and to see what he comes up with. Dave's first planned date was a Wii date. We played EA Active. We did an island challenge. It was really fun to compete against him. It definitely brought my competitive side out. I beat him on all the challenges except the boxing. Next we played his favorite game, Beatles Rock Band. He kicked my butt. After all the game playing was over, we watched The Amazing Race and ate a veggie platter. It was a really fun and healthy date. In fact we are going to play again tonight.

This is date 5 out of 52 for us. Go to Simply Modern Mom to join in on the fun.

Yay Spring!

It looks like Spring has sprung in our neck of the woods. The temperatures are hitting 50 degrees this week. We took advantage of the warm temps and took the kids to the park. So no words of wisdom today (or ever really) but here are some pics of the kids enjoying the sun.Caitlin's spring dance.

Caitlin: What flavor is this tooth paste?

Dave: It is berry splash.

Caitlin: Well I think it is berry disgusting.

I love that she is getting play on words now.

Water and Running Class

This has been another bad week fitness wise. I only worked out today due to the bathroom renovation. The kids haven't been able to nap or have quiet time and thus I have not been able to work out. I took Davey for a jog today. It was the first jog with Davey since the fall. I am so looking forward to warmer weather so I can do this regularly with him. A really cool thing about jogging with Davey now is he played with his Leapster 2 aka the kiddy crack and didn't even seem to notice how long we are gone.

Since I've given up the artificial sweeteners, I'm finding it hard to drink enough. It was easier when the water was flavored by Crystal Light. But I've made a big effort to insure that I'm getting all my water and staying hydrated. I always have my water bottle with me now.

I signed up for a running class at our local park and rec. It is taught by a triathlon coach but is for runners of all levels. I thought it would be great to get tips on training by an expert. It also insures that I get to run another day during the week. It starts in May. I plan on starting to jog/run again before the classes starts. I'm in sad running shape again after taking a break for a couple of months. I plan to keep up with Jillian Micheal's Making the Cut interval workouts but plan to cut back from 4 days a week to 2-3 days a week to make room for running too. I don't want to give up all the muscle I gained.

I have no idea if I gained or loss this week. I'm not sure where the scale is in this mess. I'm hoping I didn't gain but I wouldn't be surprised if I did. We have eaten out more this week than usual and even good choices have more calories than what I make at home. So I'm getting back on track and looking forward to spring.

Family Portrait

Forever In Blue Jeans

We took the kids to the theater last week. I decided to set the tripod up to take a family portrait before we left. I think the shots came out pretty good. Everyone is actually looking at the camera and smiling. Can't ask for much more.

The serious shot.
The silly shot.
