Diet Crazy or Plain Crazy?

Woman 1: So when are you going on your vacation to Capri?

Woman 2: I think I'm canceling.

Woman 1: Why?

Woman 2: I can't seem to lose any weight.

********************************************************************

That was an actual conversation I overheard while watching my daughter's gymnastics lesson. I can't imagine canceling a vacation because I thought I was too heavy. This woman was serious about canceling her vacation too. For the record she was not heavy either. She probably was a size 8 or 10. Minutes later I heard her half joke about getting her jaw wired to lose more weight. I'm glad her daughter was in the gym so she couldn't hear this. I'm definitely not at the weight I'd like to be but I wouldn't let it stop me from doing anything.

I am also very careful about not talking negatively about my weight in front of my daughter. I know one friend, who does and her 4 year old daughter has picked up on it. I've heard the 4 year old refuse candy because she doesn't want to get fat. Scary stuff indeed. I'm trying to be a good example for my kids. I exercise regularly. We play tag and run around regularly. I prepare healthy meals for them and me (even if they don't eat all their veggies they are there.) I'm so glad that I've developed a healthier relationship with my body.

My husband has a bit of a negative body image and I have convinced him to keep his mouth shut (most of the time) around Violet.

Sounds like that lady was fishing for compliments and that is REALLY annoying.

Oh, my. I figure my weight is the same wherever I am, so I might as well go on vacation and enjoy!

I admit I have negative body issues, but I'm doing my best not to let my kids see that. We cook healthy meals here, too. I exercise regularly and they like to pretend they are doing it, too.

It's taken me a long time, but I have come to accept my body. Yes, I want to work out. And yes, I may lose weight from doing it. But the part I focus on with Princess is that working out is a healthy thing to do for many reasons.

We talk about what foods are healthy, not related to weight but to what is good for our bodies.

We don't talk about weight or being fat or overweight or anything like that. I could stand to lose 10 pounds, but I never talk about it around Princess and she thinks I look beautiful...even if she tells me that my balloons are bigger than her balloons. Ballons are butt-cheeks by they way. ;)

I'd never cancel a vacation because I thought I was too heavy - then I'd never go on vacation! ;) I'm like you, I may not be happy with my current figure, but I'm working on it and definitely don't ever talk negatively about my weight (or any one else's) particularly in front of the Princess Nagger - I don't want her to end up with body issues as she grows up. Currently she's borderline underweight (even though she eats like a little piggy) because she inherited the uber fast metabolism her Dada has. ;)

I'm trying to be really careful about what I say about my weight in front of my daughter. It's amazing how much they pick up.

that is absolutely crazy. A trip to Capri and she is thinking of canceling for such a lame reason... Can only wonder what her husband thinks (assuming she is married) - although maybe she is not - and is on the prowl which is why she wants to be skinnier to pick up some cougar meat (just thinking out loud ;-)

OH that is so sad. The only thing that would stop me from taking a vacay is lack of cash! lol

Sad. Just sad. we spend SO much time obsessing, worrying and thinking of our weight, YET, most people will not go to the true root and take care of it. They just go in vicious cycles and beat themselves up for YEARS. Sad.
