Dinner with Friends at Home

Project 52: Date Nights logo
So this week, we had our friends over for dinner with all the kids. It is hard to get babysitters to go out without the kids so had everyone over. The dinner had its challenges. What do you serve when one can't have dairy, another tomatoes, and two more meat? I made pasta primavera, ziti with sauce, and meatballs on the side. I thought we could play Wii games for entertainment but we simply enjoyed talking and watching the kids play. It was so nice to get together with friends. Not only did I connect with Dave but my friends too. I hope we can plan another dinner again soon.( I know that this date violates the no kid rules but it was enjoyable and the only way see everyone.)

This is date 3 out of 52 for us. Check out Simply Modern Mom's Project 52 to join in on the fun.

I only have one little one at home now, but when I had 5 little ones dates without kids was not much of an option. If we were even blessed to be able to go do something, who had the money to pay a babysitter. And we are truly past the days, of leaving your children with a Older responsible teen. (except in my home- I have 5 great babysitters for our Little Duck)

A date with kids and friends is always fun! The kids get to enjoy fellowship and so do you....

Those types of get-togethers are the best kind. Everyone gets to spend time together and have a great time!

I agree with jen@odbt. The kids entertain each other and you get to spend time with the adults... win-win. :)

Getting together with other families is great - the kids play and the adults socialize and no one has to pay for a babysitter!

Seriously, what a great way to spend an evening. I remember fondly these kinds of parties from my childhood. It's a great date for everyone.

Kids or no kids its an effort to spend some time with adults and enjoy the company of your spouse! We do theme dinners like that with a group of friends and take turns hosting. The kids usually entertain each other and we can all save our $ for when we NEED a night out!

What fun! There is nothing like time with other grown ups. Something I soooo took for granted pre-kid.

Getting together with friends is so much fun, and as long as you are with your man it counts as a date in my book!

This is really a great idea. My friends are at such different stages, many with kids, some without, some single - but the idea of a 'group date' with the little ones actually works.

Nice to meet you, btw. I'm also Cheekymama, but you may know me as Babe about Town ;-)

It sounds like you had a lot of fun! I bet dinner was great too. I don't think I'd have enough energy to prepare a meal for that many people.

Perfect dinner choice...

Years ago when my son was little we used to get together with a group of friends and have all the kids running around. One of those friends has since moved to Singapore- but I'll always remember the fun times through the pics...

That sounds like a great night! Isn't it nice when there are a lot of kids and they're too busy playing and having fun to bug mom and dad?! ;) And you don't have to pay a sitter!

I absolutely love having friends come over with their kids...it's like the kids act as a built-in baby sitters for my little one! She is so distracted with her fun, exciting friends, she leaves me alone so I can enjoy mine! :)

I think you made a great choice. We recently had a little get together. We are only 3 families so perhaps a dozen people, but one is fatally allergic to nuts, even though we are all vegetarians several of us were on raw food diets and we had raw pasta made from zucchini with nut-not meat balls, (which of course the allergic person couldn't have) and other yummies, which one who couldn't have any sweets had to have made separately with stevia, besides our traditional dhal subji, It was quite the taste event and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.
