P.S. When I was searching for images of Caillou, I found some really funny but really disturbing parodies on YouTube. They were too disturbing to post here. They are some people who hate Caillou way more than I do.

Ticked Off Tuesday-Say Farewell Caillou
Alright, I know I've complained about this awful show before. I felt guilty and let Davey and Caitlin watch it again. After a week of watching Caillou, Caitlin tells me she does not like the crusts on her sandwiches. She has always eaten them. She learned from an episode of Caillou that the crusts are "yucky." Caillou seems to have renewed her fear of the dark after another episode. The final straw was when I went to pump gas. Caitlin wanted to get out of the car to "help" me pump gas like Caillou's dad. The chances of me unbuckling her car seat and letting her stand with me to pump gas are nonexistent. Pumping gas is one of the few moments of solitude I get during the day. I am not giving it up because Caillou's crazy dad let's him do it. Caillou is a bad influence. Caillou is no longer broadcast on my cable network. At least that is the story I'm telling Caitlin and I'm sticking with it.

You need a break, something really special.
Yeah, I don't like him either. And why is he bald? What preschool focus group favored a bald 4 year old boy?
That whiny voice drives me nuts! A Caillou ban sounds like a great idea!
I've not let Evan watch Caillou until recently, mainly due to his often-complained about whiny voice and the bad bad reviews.
What I saw confirmed my earlier decision. The episode I saw showed Caillou in a major temper tantrum. I at first thought maybe it would be ok because it showed Evan that 1) other kids have tantrums and 2) it's not okay and other kids moms won't tolerate either. And then I realized: 1) other kids have tantrums! Evan doesn't much anymore! I'm not going to allow a tv show to negatively influence his behavior or increase it any.
Yep. Caillou is gone bye-bye in my house too!
I think that is a wise decision! It's tough enough to raise kids without them getting ideas like that:)
Yeah, Caillou sucks. 'nuff said.
Caillou has never played on our PBS station, as far as I know. But, I have purposely avoided Barney and I no longer turn on Noggin/ Nick Jr. It's all like crack and has a very unsavory effect on Vi.
Of course, I allow her to watch old episodes of Friends with us and she now uses the word "bitchin'" with surprising accuracy. I am mother of the year.
Was never a fan of Caillou - he's whiny, demanding. I don't understand why PBS continues to broadcast him.
I have to agree. Some of his episodes drive me a little nuts.
I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! I think Cailou is a BRAT!!!!! I watched one episode and his WHINNING set me crazy!!!!! I dont let my own kids whine I will be darned if I will let some cartoon character come behind me and influence my children to be like him. Its like Rugrats I dont let my kids watch that either Angelica needs a serious time out or better yet a spanking LOL. She was always doing things wrong and blaming the babies.....way to go writers lets teach our kids to be liars!
I used to think he was a good thing to watch. How he would "work" through various issues. After having enough "time" to see some episodes, I now believe he is whiny and spoiled and his parents must be on valium.
Agreed, Cailou is a whiny annoying brat!
i have never heard of it here, but it does sound like a strange cartoon! arnt cartoons meant to encourage kids! no wonder it get took off the network!

Love your post--it gets at the heart of what parents today deal with regarding mass media. And then come video games that train our dear children to become cold blooded murderers. Geez. I did check out some Cailou (never heard of this character before now) spoofs on YouTube. Yikes! But not surprising.
If you are planning a birthday party for your child on his next birthday consider a Caillou birthday party especially if your child is a great fan of Caillou and friends.
