Just don't let him know...

A month ago Davey started chanting "potty" and pulling my finger to drag me to the bathroom. I obliged and sat him on the toilet. He amazed me and actually urinated. He then ran out of the bathroom naked and proceeded to pee on my living carpet. I had been through this with my daughter so I didn't get too excited. She too had peed on the potty before her second birthday but quickly lost interest. She didn't become potty trained till her second birthday. I didn't get my hopes up.

Over the next couple of days, Davey peed and even pooped on the potty several times. I started to get my hopes up a little. I wasn't sure if he was really ready to be potty trained. Should I put him in underpants? Should I keep him in diapers or pullups? I was not sure.

We had Davey's 2 year old well check up this week. I asked for the pediatrician's advice. She said it is common for kids to have an interest for about a month but if you push them too hard they totally stop wanting to use the toilet. She advised to keep taking him and encouraging him but don't let him know that I really want him to go all the time. So that is what we are doing right now. Shhh, don't tell him he is potty training!

The Parents Blogger Network along with The Potty Project are sponsoring this potty training blog blast.

My lips are sealed! We had a few false starts at our house, too.

Good luck!

The doc is right. But after raising 6, I'd take him alone to the store and let him pick out some underpants. Then just show him where they are and let him know that when he thinks it's time to change into underpants, they are waiting! No push, just the knowledge that they are waiting. What a good boy! Boys ARE harder to train than girls. Good luck Mom.

Good luck! I never pushed any of my kids...maybe that's why they were all almost 3 when they finally potty-trained. It's true - you can't make them do what they won't want to do though.

I cannot wait for Asher to be at this point. He knows how to change his pull up, knows when he is wet/dirty and knows WHEN he is doing it. Yet? Won't go. I am hoping this summer!

Fantastic to hear and great job on his part! That is too cute when they become so independent on the potty :)

I won't tell! My son was 3 1/2 before he was potty trained. Thank goodness the girls were a little quicker. :o)
